IIT-Madras: The Israel-Palestine war was mentioned during the 61st convocation at IIT-Madras on Friday (July 19, 2024). IIT-Madras student Dhananjay Balakrishnan raised his voice against the ongoing genocide in Palestine and said that there is no end in sight to it. Let us tell you that Dhananjay Balakrishnan was awarded in this program.
During the address, Dhananjay Balakrishnan said, ‘If I do not use the platform to raise some important issues, I would be doing injustice to myself and everything I hold dear. Mass genocide continues in Palestine (Israeli–Palestinian conflict) in which a large number of innocent people are losing their lives. There seems to be no end to this genocide.’
What is the reason for anger?
Dhananjay Balakrishnan (IIT-Madras student) said that we should express concern over the current situation in Israel-Palestine because STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) has been used extensively to further Israel’s hidden objectives and this is a matter of serious concern.
Attack on companies
He said, ‘Being an engineering student, we are currently working hard to get a top-level job that can provide great benefits but these tech giants are controlling various aspects of our lives today. Many of these big and renowned companies are also involved in the war against Palestine. These companies are somewhere providing technical support to Israel.’
‘I have no answer’
Dhananjay Balakrishnan said, ‘I have no solution or answer to this problem but I know that as engineers it is our responsibility to be aware of the consequences of our work. We also need to properly check the status of our powers. We have to keep understanding what we can do as responsible individuals for the society and people who are facing oppression.’ Dhananjay Balakrishnan also urged other students to make continuous efforts to get the unhappy people out.
